I first started keeping fish about 6 years ago, and when I wanted a fish which would help keep the tank clean I sought advice.

I went to a fish shop for advice, I was sold a pleco and was told not to worry because he won't grow larger then 4 inches.

I should have gone away to do further research but I took the advice and bought the pleco.

It turns out that he's a gibby, he's now 35.6cm and may grow to 50 cm's.

I've been fortunate in that I've been able to buy larger tanks to meet his needs and he is absolutly my pride and joy, but I can't help wondering how many people have bought one on bad advice and havent been able to home them properly.

He may life for another 15 years or so....a true long term friend.

I suppose I set myself up for a head slap using the words "all, always and never." But thanks Boboboy. I just bought a pair of L182 w/o research, trusting the supplier. It won't bust my tank, but I won't put them in a 10 usg. haha

i did the same thing, when i first started with fish. went to walmart, bought a bunch on neon tetras and a pleco for my 10 gallon. i asked the guy how big do these get and he replied 4 or 5 inches, well he ended up getting to about 8 inches. luckily i was able to buy a 60 gallon tank and i learned alot more about fish.

Hi, i have the exact same fish! he is my pride and joy. and i also know that they are more expensive than normal plecs. so make sure u keep hold of him :D

I bought mine when he was a baby and now he is about 30cms.
