Hello again all. I set up a marine a while ago (with great help from Ski and a few others). After a while I came to the conclusion it just wasnt the right shape or size at 4'x1'x1'. Just wanted to say hello again as I'm sure I will need plenty of help :)

At the moment I have set my 90gal 48"x18"x24 up an have a bit of live rock in there and a bit of base. Waiting to go back to the LFS soon, once its cycled, for my clean up crew. Gonna be a slow process though due to financial restrictments at the minute (poor student). But I am really looking forward to getting this set up.

Keep urself about Ski :)

I will be putting plenty of pics once it looks ok.

In many respects, financial restrictions can be a benefit, as it stops you from going overboard with fish and other livestock and makes you be that extra bit careful.

w/b, can't wait to see what you come up with this time :)

Ok guys, got a quick question already. I seem to have quite a bit of Aiptasia on a few pieces of live rock purchased by my girlfriend on my behalf (she thought they were tiny corals). I have read vinagear does the trick. Is this true and if so how much would I put in a 90gal? There is nothing living in there yet so this would be easier to do now I presume. Thx in advance.

Vinegar will do the trick as will Joe's juice. Get a syringe or baster, turn off the powerheads. Aim at the base of the aiptasia and squeeze out a few millilitres until it rises up to the mouth of the anenome. It will feed and be killed.

Alternatively, remove the LR, place it into a bucket and scrub it with a nail brush to remove the aiptasia. Better to do it now than in 6 months when you are inundated with them.

Thx. Man! On closer inspection these things are everywhere. I might put the rock in a bucket for about half hour and just add the vinegar there. I was only seeing the 1-2" ones but there are tons of smaller ones at the back. Great start!

vinegar worked wonders for me, best to get rid of them as quick as possibly before they spread!

You could also try adding a peppermint shrimp to your clean up crew list. These often feed on aiptasia and will remove them before you even notice them. Copperbanded butterfly fish also feed on these, but they are finnicky feeders, and once the aiptasia are gone, can be a pain to wean onto other food stuffs. They can also nip corals too.

Joe's juice/vinegar and peppermints shrimp are definitely the better option.

blow torch is also something you could use..... this is if its a VERY serious infestation and it is immune to about everything you throw at it....
