a swollen goldfish

alright i'm posting this message for a co-worker who has a goldfish and she says he is bloated and has somekind of long clear (turd ) coming out of it. Does anybody have any idea what this could be. I've never had goldfish. and I looked in my books could't find anything that sounded like it. she says he/she is swimming alright. At first I though it might be having babies but with gold fish being egg scatteres. I'm not sure if the fish would get fat???

Could be either constipation, in which case feed earthworms (acts like laxative) or, if sticking out scales, Dropsy. If it is Dropsy then there really isn't much hope... Tell him to keep up good tank maintainance and feed appropriate foods... godfish like a lot of greenfoods (blanched spinach, lettuce, shelled peas) with occasional livefoods (earthworms, frozen bloodworm).

it sounds very much like she's gravid to me. The clear thing would be an egg tube. She may be egg bound, in which case adding a male and increasing the temperature will help her drop. As Gibbo said, it could be constipation, peas and epsom salt baths are great for them. Epsom salt baths are 1 teaspoon per gallon, half an hour a day. It may take up to a week to cure her.
