I have not been on lately, so I don't know if this makes my post not worth as much input wise, or if length of time on here is even considered. Anywho, may we please have a like button? Not a dislike one. But one to hit "like" if we find someones post specifically helpful or knowledgeable. There does not have to be a comment area for it, just simply a like button that will keep tally and be shown on member info by your total posts. So then not only will it let the member know they are giving good information, but for newer people or someone who is looking for solid advice, they will know that this person is known for good advice. It doesn't have to be fancy. Just a button. Then, you won't have to worry about someone leaving a comment that could be considered harmful ect.

I always liked this idea. but it just does not work. the same group of fiends, click "like" on a regular basis/ this makes the button worthless. then, often you get good advice, but dont like it, so no "like" click. its like all these, "I've got a badge so I'm good", ideas. in theory its great, in practice it sucks.

personalty i cant see why people don't read advice given, then go and research it! relying on a "badge"?

I have always wondered what you mean when you say 'badge' Rex, i have seen you say this before, but i don't understand?

unfortunately, these things become a "badge". "I've get more "whatever". and, against their purpose, the get used as a sign that somehow, information has more force, if you have more "thanks" than somebody else. you get people asking fore thanks, if you felt their post was good. effectively, a "badge" pointing you out as better in some way than others.

adding "thanks" mealy points out that some liked your post. it in no way points that that post was correct. these things all look good, until they are used in the real world.

we start off with something aimed at helping forum users. it ends up highlighting popular posts and members, often the two are exclusive.
mind you a "thanks" accoladed awarded by MODs, may well be worth looking at.

:good: :good:

Maybe one that just works on a regular post, but does not have a tally so members can have a better idea of what advice might be better? I understand your side of the badge idea, but on the other hand, I think it would be worth a try, maybe roll it out for two week and see how things go. I personally would not be motivated to hit the "like" button on anyones post unless it was indeed useful.
