Hello again one and all,

Due to work commitments my tank isnt going as rapidly as I like but then patience is a virtue and all that.

Right I have set everything up and filled it with water I have a fair few rocks but looking at getting more, my question is more along the lines of aesthetics and habitat.

Is it better to have the rocks low down near the substrate with caves and hiding holes there or do cichlids prefer the rocks stacked high on one side of the tank with a large open space on the other side?

cichlids do swim near the bottom they dont really use the top of the tank i have found out myself though that stacking the rock up higher does encourage them to use all of the swimming space in the tank.

i have tryed both rock formations and my fish go all over the tank whichever way i stack the rocks.

I agree with the above, just stack the rocks how you like them. I like having the rocks stacked across the tank with the open space at the front.
