many people recomend the use of razor blades to clean glass of mineral deposits, algae etc.
here is what I use
this is called (in UK) a 7" window scraper.
it safely holds a stanley(tm) blade and enables you to keep the blade flat to the glass
so that you do not scratch it.
it also prevents you from slipping and doing yourself some serious damage.
The only thing I'd say is
the blades are covered in oil to prevent them going rusty, obviously this is not good for the fish
(if used inside tank). you must degrease them before use. I've found wiping off with a lint free cloth, then a minute bit of soapy water does the best job (be carefull these blades are very very sharp.)
as with anything that is intended for use inside a tank, make sure you are satisfied it is free from any soap residues etc.
if you can't find the scraper locally to you, you can order direct from Stanley Tools(tm)
here.
