I have a Chinese Algae eater, as most poeple will know chinese aglae eaters are very territoral and so it trys to attack most of the other fair size fish in the tank, but i went out and got a Red tail black shark because i had always wanted one, and then when i released it into the tank it start teasing the algae eater by swimming close to it, then taking its time swimming away and then going back for more, and then going even further he started lying on top of the algae eater and really annoying it, i found it really funny...

:D

This topic should be in Cyprinids and Characins forum not this one. :)

Funny! My Red Tailed Shark would attack anything the same size or shape and IME so would a CAE to.

I didnt know that sorry, i just thought it was abit odd, because i did read that Red tail black sharks were supposed to be very territoral as well..

So is my Red tail balck shark a member of the Cyprinids and Characins family?

Both the Red Tailed Shark and the CAE are Cyprinids.

RTBS's are so much fun to watch. My friend was very upset when his died. But he also screwed himself over and overstocked and couldn't get a replacement!

I didnt know that either thanks

;)

I know Red Tail shark are fun to watch i spend at least two hours a day just watching him do his things through the tank, fasinating fish he is and as i said before, the only reason i got him was because i saw them in a book and i like those type of looking fish, i would get a betta, but i dont want to push my luck, so i think i am sticking with what i got till i am in a better position

;)

Red Tail Sharks Rule! sorry

red tails and SAE are too simular to be kept together and as they get older and more aggressive they will mistake one another for the same species and not tolerate each others presence

I guess that make me glad i only got one, i did read up they dont like their own species and get very aggressive, and i thought how do they breed then, and then this book told me it is VERY RARE that these fish breed in a tank, but it still puzzels me, how do they breed ALL together?

Yeah i have sorted something out now, i have the CAE in a seperate tank with a few new neons i bought today, and the other in the other tank, and i am trying a new swordtail known as the red finned swordtail, and it seems to be doing ok, all the fish seem to be happy...
