I use the IP.Board skin, and at the bottom of screen, on the dark blue band, there is a little icon with opposing green arrows, and next to it is some text saying "9 queries" or however many queries there are at the time.

What's that all about then? What's a query, in this context?

iv got 12 as well... no clue what they are ;p

I have 12 now, too.

Not sure why it would bother displaying it to everyone, but I strongly suspect it's telling you the level of activity of queries to the SQL database that the board is on.

When the board is very active with lots of people searching it would get high and things would slow down. Admins can then adjust the settings that stop people running too many seaches too quickly to keep things under control.

That sounds a very plausible explanation, Dr Rob, you're clearly not a doctor for nothing. :good:

mines gone up to 15! =D

edit... back to 12....

This.

The board is built on a db (like a lot of websites) and every time you open any page on the forum, that is query against that db.

The front page is a query to the db server: "what sections of the forum do I have access to view?" -- and this is different depending on the user, as mods can see a few more sections than regular users.

Click on a section, and your query to the server is "what threads are in this section, and sort that answer by recent activity descending" whenever you choose to sort it by something else, you change the second part of the query there. Or you can filter the threads by only active in the last 14 days or similar.

Now, as to why that information needs to be presented? I have no idea, really. Probably simply because it can be. :)

Thanks for the explanation, Bignose.

It is shown to display server load and 9/10 you can not disable it unfortunatly
