Yep, I have a mean little platy. He particually ticks me off, because he killed two other platies, one was one of my prized hybrid platies. I don't really know what to do with him, I'm trying to get him a mate so I can start breeding more platies, and get back into one thing that makes me happy. I also have 5-10 feeder guppies too, all cultivated from my neighbor's tank. What should I add with them? I also have:

4 Crawfish
a Pleco (common)
2 Rosy Reds
a Cherry Barb
a Black Neon Tetra
and 2 Zebra Danios

Add some more danios. They like to be in groups of six or more.

I'm sure the tetra would like some company too.

I'll get more danios. The store near my house doesn't sell Black Neon Tetras anymore. :( And besides, the tetra is very close friends with my cherry. ;)

That's cool. I'm sure other people will have input but I don't have a whole lot of experience with the fish you keep.

How big is your tank?

40 gallon. I originally started a Livebearer Breeder tank, but my platies and guppies died, one thing led to another, and it turned into a community tank. The crawfish came because my mom thought it was a good idea to have 5 pet crawfish. 1 male, 4 female. The original 5 died long ago. Get my drift? ;)

I hate to say this but a fourty gallon isn't big enough for a common pleco.

I personally wouldn't have any fish in with crawfish myself. I don't know if it's a problem or not though. I'm sure someone else will though.

I found a trick with a crawfish. If you get them as eggs or hatchlings, get them in the tank with the fishes, and since they've grown up with them, they are less inclined to attack.

That's cool. I still wouldn't do it though. I'd wind up forgetting to feed them one day and walk in to find a bunch of fish carcasses floating around and a fat crawfish. lol

But like I said that tank isn't big enough for a common pleco. They get to be like 20 inches long and they make a big mess too.

???????

What size is the common plec?

To say it aint ok to leave it in a 40G tank is beyond me lol, i have my 5" one in my 20G and he is very happy fro now.

As long as it aint ridiculously huge, it will be fine in the 40G.

Right now I'm sure it might be ok but a fully grown common wouldn't be ok in a 40 gallon. They can get up to two feet long. Hardly enough room to move in a fourty gallon tank. Let alone with other fish in there.

I understand what your saying, but really it would of been best to ask him first how big it was, and depending on the size, tell him the info needed, ie if it was only small, then he would eventually need to move it to a bigger tank but it will be ok for a while :)

Not having dig or anything, just stating that questions lead to giving good/correct advice :)

I'm going to move it anyway, along with my crawfish. Thanks, anyway. :)

You're absolutely right. I should have asked what size it was. I was merely trying to warn of the adult size. I probably should have worded my response differently as well.

Point proven. I take it "having dig" is something like picking a fight??? If that's the case then, it's all good.
