... Flying betta!
Yes, that's right folks, I am not-so-proud to say I own two of these special wingless, yet full of flying power! They have proved their skills to me in the space of less than 24 hours.
First flying betta? My green and red female, who is currently in a jar while she heals her fins. No lid, as the jar isn't completely full, and she's not a jumper. But she's a flyer, so I have discovered! Last night.. or should I say early this morning (2 am!!!), I woke out of a sound sleep to the tiniest of noises. For some reason, it suddenly scared me wide awake that she might of jumped out. I don't know why I thought this, because I never would usually... but I guess I now have a "mom" instinct for my bettas. Just as I was about to go back to sleep, I decided to check - flipped on the light, put on my glasses, and there she was, laying a foot from her jar on my desk... motionless. Stuck her back in her jar (with a lid!), and she's fine.
Second flyer? My blue female (yes, so far this flying betta species cannot be produced, as I do not have males). Just as I finished adding water to her tank after cleaning it, I went to set the pan down and heard a sploosh. She too, was laying on my desk... though not so motionless. Talk about an adrenline rush. URGH!
I don't like flying bettas. I do not recommend them. However... I do recommend lids.
