A New Begining

Well i have not been fish keeping for a long time now, round a year. And im jumping back on board. I have set up a standard 2ft tank. 3.5kg of liverock so far. I mixed the saltwater up myself.

The problem is, i have had alot of critters die, lots of worms and even crabs, is this normal for a cycling tank? maybe i was lucky all the other times cos i had never had this happen.
I also made a mistake by adding a calcium supp as i will filling up the water, i know stupid idea.
So the tank is murky as hell right now, the skimmer is starting to pick stuff up tho which is good.

Quick couple of daft questions, but when did you add everything in relation to the rest of it (salt, water, rock, sand, supplements)? What are your stats currently for Magnesium, Alkalinity, Ca, pH, Ammonia, NitrIte, NitrAte and salinity?

sorry to mislead you, but im not a noob. I wouldnt ask a question unless i had no idea what it could be. Of course there is ammonia, it is a new tank. Calcium im not even testing for its 1 day old. PH 8.2 KH 14 and nitrite and nitrate is nill...

come to think of it no i didnt
theres alot of dieoff this morning, ah well, all a matter of a good cycle, i will just put some better quality rock in there for next week, thanks any ways, i will also make a journal

Must be good to start afresh, sometimes I wish I could, as I could do everything better with the knowledge gained from experience(sadly cash and wife wouldn't allow it). Bummer that you've got loads of die off on your new LR at least it will give you a chance to get reaquainted with your test kits

haha dammit! more money! Im just goint to let my tank cycle for around 1 month b4 i even think about what im putting in it. I rush tanks all the time, and they always die somehow, im doing it textbook this time. Its hard looking at an empty tank tho I sure everyone here knows the feeling!

Its lookin better, just found i have 3 purple morphs on 1 of the rocks! lets hope they live, they cost an arm and a leg in aus!

Blimy, that is some die off... No need to ask if it's cured, the stats say it isn't

The rock would appear to be either bought when not cured, or it was transported incorrectly. If you haven't internet ordered it, and you did all the right things bringing it home, it will be uncured rock Ah, the smell of uncured rock is loverly isn't it, enjoy, at least you can now open the windows since the weather has picked up
