Will this hurt him in anyway? I turned off the heater before school today, and when I got home he was sucking it. He also was sucking the filter earlier today. Will curosity kill the Pleco? :/

I don't think he'd do it if it was hurting him. You can get heater guards that go over the element part of the heater. As for the filter, I see no problem with him doing that.

Why did you turn your heater off?

Well my thermoter said the temp was in the unsafe range
What did you have the heater set to? What did the thermometer say? You can't go changing the tempature like that! You'll cause the fish stress.

What was the tempature when you got home? Is your heater broken?

The heater is fine,It was well above the safe range :) So I turned it off cause I was concerned. The temp was at what you guys recomended.

You don't have to turn the heater off when it's at the right tempature. The heater will not come back on until it has to. They have an inbuilt thermostat that will measure when it needs to come on again.

Do you not have an aquarium heater? How can you regulate the tempature if you have to turn it off every time it gets to a certain level?

I regularly find mine sucking on the filter - he's just doing his job, no cause for concern! he probably does it while your in bed at night too. just turn the heater down a touch and you should be ok. I keep my heater anywhere from 25 to 30 degrees, but its usually constant at about 28
