So, I gave Sori his water change, moved him from salty to fresh, gave him about an hour and a half to transfer over. He's in water that's been sitting for at least a week. I added Jungle Start Right to the water. Generally, an hour to two hours is my standard 'transition time', where I'd take his water add, pour, replace, etc. He's usually extremely active, all the time, water change or no. I guess what I mean is, he just doesn't get clampy and weird after a water change and transition. He's a trooper. Before the water change, he was really really active, jumping at my fingers, flaring at me (a new development), and in general, extremely energetic. Now, he's clamped and at the bottom of the tank. I added a sprig of plant, whereas before, he was plantless. I think he's terrified of being 'without cover'. That seems to have perked him up immensely, but now what I'm curious about, is this white stuff in his water.

The white stuff is in his fresh water, the same white stuff that was in his old tank. He was in a totally cleaned out, 1.25G bowl, with totally fresh, treated water. I cleaned it throughally before, there's no way that this white junk could get into the water any other way than Sori himself.

I'm beginning to wonder if the white stuff is a symptom of illness? Some betta illness that I haven't heard of in my months of googling? Or maybe it's some basic betta concept I've not read about yet....

Could it possibly be his slime coat, cast off, or something? It looks rather...jelly like, for lack of a better word. Sometimes it looks thread like, but it doesn't seem to bear a resembelence to thread worms.

Even his waste never um, had color. Maybe he has some kind of internal parasite? Maybe it's a product of a months long constipated betta? Oo

Sometimes, it seems like these little.... clear, jelly like things fly out of his gills and body when he swims. I can't figure how else to explain it, and since it's so small, I don't think a picture is feasible. But it does look like the stuff that was in his old tank, it's just not in a mass yet.

Ask me questions. Maybe that'll get a clearer post out of me.

Actually, yeah, he's back to his old self now that theres a sprig of something to hide behind. He's so fearless and active with a plant, and so clampy and terrified without one.

In either case, I'm still puzzled over this white stuff in the water. I'd be pleased if someone could help me.

Could be a result of the Jungle Start Right. I've known of several people who have used it and complained about a film on the water. But I don't really remember anything about it looking like jelly.

Actually, it's not a film. A 'film' would mean that it's floating atop, this stuff swirls about the bottom. I'm starting to think that maybe my Sori... uhn, for lack of better phrasing, has weird.... waste. *cough* He doesn't seem to actually.... do .... o, anything else.

Oh, and I've got a new name. After the fish. It's either really devout or kinda sad. *laugh*

Guh. ><

I admit, I took my betta out of his 2.5G tank, but I didn't immediately clean out the tank and all that. I just put him in some clean water in a 1+G bowl and began to nurse him from there.

Today, I turned on the light just behind his old tank, his old 2.5G tank, and thought that maybe my eyes were tricking me, but I thought I saw something tiny swimming in there. It's like, a bunch of tiny, white specs are in there, about the size of the period at the end of this sentance. They're obviously alive, they dart rather quickly around. It's not lots, and lots, and lots, but it's noticeable that there are many.

I just changed out Sori's water in his 1+G bowl today, so I cant comment on wether or not it was present in his old water or not.

But could these things be the source of the 'white stuff'? And what on earth could they be?

I'm starting to really favor keeping him in his little 1G bowl where we can 'play' with each other. -_- At least there, he's generally always in clean water, and I notice stuff wrong with him right away.

Could it be some kind of parasite?

How on earth do I google for this? Oo

I have no filter in the tank, it's a tiny 2.5G thing. And the stuff crawls on the side of the glass, it's obviously alive.

Uhn, no one has any idea?

Maybe people could help me figure out how to google for it? I'm at a loss.

Have you read this thread? Not sure if it will help at all...

thank you, ladyhawke, that does help. i can't see that much detail in them, but at least now i know how to look for 'em. i'm glad to know, that at least they aren't harmful to bettas --or at least, that they're *probably* not harmful to bettas.

i haven't noticed any in his 1+G bowl, as well, and that's a relief.
