the tank is a 39g uk, and is 48" long, 18" tall, 12" wide.
i want to know what wattage of light should i have in the tank? i currently have sun-glo, 40w, and is 70cm long.
the light i have in there now makes the water look yellow when infact the water is crystal clear.
is there a place on the net i can buy them from, the tank is medium planted, the plants include vallis, java fern and hornwort.
and if you can tell me the price i would be paying for a light this size it would be helpfull, thanks :D

Since you're in Cwmbran I'd point you to the Maidenhead Aquatics store there. It's not too bad and has some nice fish at times.

You have a 39 UK gallon tank which equates to about 43 US gallons. For the plants you have thats just about OK.
Look for a tube with a temperature of about 6500K (look on the box or web info) or alternatively look for one that says it replicates sunlight closely. Any light over your tank will show up all sorts of particles that you can't see when the lights are off, even bacteria when there's enough of it!

Had a quick check and the sun glo tube apparently does look yellowish so you could try the lif glo tube although expect it to be in the region of £20 or so. They have an internal reflector which intensifies the light but costs more. For 'net prices just google life glo. I expect that once postage has been factored into it you'll pay a similar price to the local shops though.
