I have a little platinum plakat male and last night he had finally settled into his new home and was flaring and munchin on bloodworms happily. Then this morning (I have to get up super early on thursday mornings for class) when I turned on his light, he had lost ALL of his color! I was so worried! He looked like a muddy brown when he's usually dark silver-purple. And he didn't move. I left him alone for a couple of min, then when I came back he was still in the same spot. I was going to freak out because I don't know what could be wrong. Then, he yawned! And immediately started swimming around looking for food and his color came back almost instantaniously! (Thank God). I guess I just woke him up too early!!! Now he's flaring at the calendar like a happy boy! :D :D :D :D

Some fish do go pale when they are sleeping if his colur has returned i wouldn't worry about it, and switching the light on with certain fish can stress them out.

the same thing happens with my damsel (my avatar) he goes almost stark white when he sleeps. Scared me the first time too!

I have to turn the light on in the community tank in the morning about 5 minutes before I am ready to feed them so they can all wake up. My guppies especially, the girls will lay around for several minutes before they start to get their color back and meander up to the top for breakfast.

Not my fish...as soon as the lights turn on at 5:30 AM, they all rush to the surface to be fed. I think they've gotten used to the routine... The ones that really don't seem to appreciate the lights turned on in the morning would have to be my Upside-Down Catfish in my room. They protest with a chorus of wierd clicking noises when I turn my lamp on every morning.
