id like a pleco for my new Rio 180, it's 50 US Gallons.

I love the look of the Sailfins, how big do they get? my LFS sells them, would my tank be big enough for one? if not, what other *large* pleco could i keep in it? ;)

thanks,

Hi, I have a Sailfin and I have read and been told that they can grow up to 2 feet. Mine has grown about 7 inches in 7 months. There is no certainty that they will reach 2 feet but they easily could. It would be ok if you plan to get ever larger tanks to accomodate it, which I am doing. They can live 20 - 25 years. :) I don't know about other Plecos as I only have the one. It is a very nice fish and very entertaining to watch. They can get very tame but mine isn't yet.

Hi,

A bristlenose plec would be a good choice, depending on the variety they get 4-8 inches long. If you get a pair they will most likely breed.

not exactly big though :)

I'd do for an L014 (w3e have one and he's great)

or you could re home a large plec from a store :)

Hi,

Rio 180s really aren't that big, not even 4 feet long so if you plan to put a *big* plec in there, there won't be much room for other fish.

i'll just point out that although the filtration on the rio 180 is adequate for a community tank it's no way near good enough for big plecs. i have had a sailfin in mine for a year or so but at some point he will need to be rehomed.

I am getting a Rio300 for Xmas and I don't think that will be big enough for the pleco's entire life. It should be big enough for a while though. My Pleco is 10" :)

I'd go for an L128, not enormous but very attractive.

You could gamble on a Gold Nugget, but there's no real garuntee which type you'd be getting and it could grow from 7" - 16" depending on what type you actually get.

*reply to comment abgout filtration*

i also have a fluval 240 running :)

if you like sailfin then go for the featherfin it grows to 8 inchs and looks a lot like a sailfin
