carefully though !! ill be doing it tonight. any tips on how to do this ??? is it just carefully sawing through the silicone blobs with a long thin knife ?

im abit anxious about doing this but it has to be done.

any tips/advice much appreciated, thanks.

I've heard that that's how you do it. Get a scalpel if you can. What Juwel you got? I'm thinking about doing the same on my Vision 180.

Paul.

I took the filter out of my rio 125. I just used an old kitchen knife with a long blade. It took a bit of sawing as the knife wasn't very sharp, but the filter came out eventually! I got the last bits of silicone off the glass using a stanley knife blade (very carefully!)
Watch you don't touch the tank sealant.

I also did it with the fish in the tank. I used a divider to keep them at the other end. If you are leaving the water in, take a bit out first as all the sawing creates a bit of a tidal wave.

Once I cut through the top pad, I turned the filter down 90 degrees to rip the bottom pad off (if that makes sense)

PS, best thing removing that filter, once I put my external on it was soooooo much better

Just used a stanley snap-off knife, its long, flexible and sharp :)

I used a long flexible knife

Worked a treat but I've never managed to get the tank looking as crystal clear as it did with the internal filter :(

What did you replace it with?

I recently bought a second hand Juwel Rio 180 and the previous owner had removed the standard internal filter but hadn't bothered to get rid of most of the black silicon (mainly the bottom two splodges), I found that using a stanley knife blade to slowly saw at a very shallow angle (as shallow as possible) seemed to get rid of it quite well and I used a slightly rough sponge to get rid of the rest. It doesn't look quite perfect but it's at the back of the tank so should be easy enough to cover up with decor.
