hi

my old filter is bout to ....... itself i think ive had to fix cause it stoped working, not turning the water over, 4 times in one week , so i think its seen better days, anyway i think i might just replace it be4 something happens and wanted to no what type of filter is better a power filter or and under gravel filter, i dont much bout either.

its going in a 150 litre tank

any options??

i would go with either the penguin or aquaclear.the biowheel is usefull, but the aquaclear holds alot of media.or if your planted you could go with the cannister, way better imo.

There are too many filters, and fans of all of them. It's hard to say which one would be best for you.

Can you give any ideas of what you are looking for? Is price a concern? Are you set on HOB? Is the tank planted?

If Money is not a problem an Eheim or a Fluval would be best but if you want a cheap yet good filter go with AquaClear, Emperor, or Penguin.

The tank isnt planted cause its got cichlids in that like to move the bottom around so i thought its a waste of time putting in live plants, pirce isnt really a big concern,
but i would like to keep my options open with it, i do plan on putting in live plants some time in the future. the type of filter is difficult for me to decide, simply because i dont no enough info about the types, the filter ive ever owned its my tetratec In800

What kind of cichlids are they, that can factor into the size of filter that you get, once you choose a type.

I'd suggest looking at a canister filter, They are far and above my favorate for tanks over 20 gallons. They hold a ton of media, are completely versatile, and run in complete silence. You can also put the input and outputs anywhere, and you can even customize the output spray bar using a common plastic piping available at any home improvement store, to disperse the water exactly as you wish to. In addition if you decide to ever go with sand, which cichlids love, they are sand safe.

in the tank there is a blue acara, (nearly full size guessing bout 12 cm) 1 yellow electa (bout 7cm not far off ful size either), and 2 red zebras both around (8 or 9 cm) plus my to little agae eaters(catfish type)

not planing on putting in any more fish i think its overstocked now if these get as big as they are suppose to, ill have to give em away.

the cansister filter sound pretty cool, beable to put it anywhere and being silent is a must have, u no any link to any.
