Hello all,

I'm in need of an external pump (in-line only, I can't submerge it for this application). There really isn't a whole lot of info about them out there that I can find.

My pumping height would be max 6ft at all times and I need one doing at least 300 GPH at this height (preferably more). Inlet and outlet should be 3/4" or above. I'm hooking it up to an external filtration system that I'm putting together.

After a ton of research, there really isn't much to choose from that I can find. The ones by Gen X seem like a lot of bang for the price, so does anyone have any experience with these? Are they noisy or just a plain out good deal? I've also looked at the Quiet One pumps, but for the price/performance, they don't seem to match the Gen X ones...However they are supposed to be nice and quiet.

I'm open to suggestions as well, as I have had no luck finding much info and have never purchased one before. I'm not stuck on any certain brand either; those two above are just the ones I have on the top of my list from research so far.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I'd look into Iwaki or Panworld pumps if you're in the states. Stay away from the Quiet One pumps, they're not so quiet ;)

Somethin like a panworld 50PX or an iwaki 30RLT would work out well for you. Little giant pumps are good too, the 2-MDQ-SC would be a good buy. GenX and panworld are both copies of the Iwaki pumps. All 3 are good performers.

Thanks for your reply; yea I'm in the US. Glad you told me about the Quiet One pumps. This setup will be in our living room area, so noisy is bad :)

The Panworld ones sound like my best bet now (I found a few reviews that said they are quieter than the iwaki ones and of course much less expensive).

While looking at your suggestions, I found another brand that looked promising due to being very quiet (30db with some reviews to back it up) called Captive Purity Poseidon that isn't too much more than the Panworld with a little higher head room, but the downfall is it says that it runs hot and increases water temp. I'm not too concerned with the water temp going up (heater runs about every day anyway, even during the summer due to AC), but is this a sign of a pump that will wear out quicker?

Thanks again,
Billy

Yeah, I'd be concerned about pumps that get too hot. The last thing you want is for your motor bearing to sieze because the shaft got a little too hot. I'd go with the Panworld, its a very well tested and well-known/renowned product. Tough to beat the quality there.
