i found this fish in my pond last week, when i was catching sticklebacks to put into a spare 10g, first i'll tell you what is in my pond, koi, goldfish, a few pond comets and shubunkins, some tench and some roach, and some sticklebacks and bullheads millers thumb) this other fish might have come from the stream with the sticklebacks...

I'm not sure but it looks like a dace

Are they the same fish? The first one certainly looks like a Three Spined Stickleback or Gasterosteus aculeatus, but the other fish certainly doesn't its most likely to be some of this years fry that isn't fully developed yet so it may be hard to 100% ID. Do you have any other photos from other angles that may help? From what I see if could be a young Orfe, Roach etc but the body shape looks abit of for those.

i think it is a fry too, because when i caught it, it must have been stickleback sized, because i wold have remembered nettig it other wise, i cant take anymore pictures sorry, i put all of them back in my pond, i changed my mind on the coldwater tank idea, i am gonna use the 10g to raise mollies in, mainly because they are taking over my bigger tank, even preading them out between the 2 tanks i'll have to start sellig/giveing them away soon, i must have gave 20-25 sailfin/balloon crosses away in the last month

where about are you as that might help narrow the search down!!??

Definately not rudd fry, they look alot different that that when there young. possible a goldfish, with a strange light angle..??

Neither of them are sticklebacks they have soft rays in there fisn and the first ray ov the stickleback ventral anal and dorsal fins are all stickles and there aren't any bony plates on the sides. Id say that they are a dace of some sort as well althought which kind I am not sure seeing as how there are some 240 different dace in the USA aloner and countless others elsewhere I'm sure.

Ah ha just saw the fish we're supposed to be IDing in the first pic there is a Stickleback beneath it, I obviously did not look hard enough. :X

i'm from nottingham england,

i'll call it a dace untill it gets bigger, their might even be a few in my pond... thanks for the help

the fish i had all that time ago has now grown massive, it looks like a chub i'll get a photo of it soon to get an id :p i'm surprised it managed to survive in the pond, it was tiny when i put him in there
