I have a few questons about my betta fish.

I've had him for a few weeks. Whenever I give it pellets, it either eats it and spits it out, or look at it for a moment, then swim away. I used to feed it freeze-dried bloodworms every day, which it loves, but as soon as I learned that feading blood worms regularly will cause constipation, I immidiately stopped got some pellets. But it won't eat them. It's problebly thinking "HEY! I WANT MY BLOODWORMS!". It's in a big bowl with two large plants. It has gravel, with a little castle which he sometimes can go inside. He makes bubble nests. I partially change the water two times a day, due to the fact that bettas like warm water, and it gets cold after a while. I also do a complete water change every week. I put my betta into a seperate, smaller bowl, while I clean out the bowl completely. He usually stays at the bottom of the tank. Is anything I am doing wrong? I feed him three pellets before I leave, and three pellets when I return home. Since the bowl is sorta big, it will take a while for him to find the small pellets. I've tried 4 brands of pellets already, but still no good. He appears to be very healthy. What should I do?

I've had my two babies for about a week now and I'm still learning. I read up on them a lot because I wouldn't like anything to die by my hand. I was told that if I was to keep my bettas in a bowl (non-filtered), don't change the water too often before the main weekly clean-out. The sudden and constant changes will affect them. That might be what is affecting them. Twice a day is a lot. It could be stressing you little guy.

What was he fed when he was at the petshop? They usually learn what to eat early on and may reject "something new". Mine don't eat anything but bloodworms. I feed them once or twice every other day so there won't be waste in the bowls. Have you tried a water change of 10% old water, 50% treated tap, and 40% bottled water? My bettas seem to thrive in that stuff because they swim with fins splayed out. They look all clumpy and lumpy and sad when I use just plain treated tap water.

My apologies if whatever I posted didn't help, but maybe it would bring up questions you might not have thought of before.

Good luck!

Changing his bowl twice daily is definately too much. Once a week should suffice. He may be used to the bloodworms and is rejecting the pellets. Not sure what to do about that one, go for a while just feeding him pellets and see if he changes his mind. But if it seems to do more harm than good, well, im not sure...

for the size of bowl your describing if your changing the water that much is far 2 much because if it needs cleaned it should only be any uneaten food cleaned not 2 PWC a day and the full water change each week isnt required but to much care can be bad care as the water conditions are constantly changing i do 2 small PCW on my betta s a day due to them being held in jam jars and any risidual food is cleaned and a little water added

i use collected rain water i collect is what i use for all my betas gourami's and my killi fish as its the best natural water source i have found or spring water collected from a natural spring in the ground because it contains everything there need for them to survive

for your diet i would tr using Grindle Worm,White Worm even Tubifix Worm if you can get it but make sure you thoroughly clean it before feeding it

but live food is far better for these fish even Brineshirmp to vary there deit there should thrive i tend to avoid flake food and pellet food because it can turn small tanks stagnant very quickly if the uneaten food starts to break down in the water
