I'll be teaching a preschool class this summer, and I want to have a class betta in a vase with a plant (to teach science as well). After the summer, I will give the betta to my mother to keep at her office. I only raise bettas in aquariums, and I really don't know much about keeping bettas in vases with plants. So I have a few questions and I hope someone can help me.

1. What kinds of plants should a betta be kept with?

2. Do you still have to treat the water with conditioner and ammonia blocker?

3. How much food do you feed the betta? (I usually feed 8-10 pellets twice a day in my aquariums)

4. Do you still have to clean the tank?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! :D :D :D

TBH, I'd say keep it in a 2.5g tank. Although what type of vase were you after? Plantwise, anything really. Mines got valis and wisteria, although they're not doing brilliantly because theres not light in it.

Everything that you would do for a fish in a regular tank needs done in a vase as well. Feeding, water changes, conditioners, etc. Also you really want to keep an eye on the plant's roots and keep them under control. The betta needs to have plenty of surface area clear where he can breathe, and the roots need to be kept clean enough that he's not at risk to get tangled in them and suffocate. :)

Are you absolutely set on having a vase with a plant on the top?
Or are you open to other options that are somewhat similar?

Well, I would really like to keep the betta in a vase with a plant. My mother would like to have one at work, and they aren't allowed to have fish tanks or anything like that. This would kind of get her off the hook, LOL! :D
