Have been building a slate background for my 100 USG mbuna tank
using cleaned reclaimed welsh slate roof tiles.
Using aquarium sealant secured them to sections of melamine (done in sections so will be less weight and cumbersome than one large piece)

Have made the sections overall slightly greater in length than my tank so I can overlap them in situ to hide/break up joints when fitted.
Overall effect will look like this

My rockwork in the tank is to be large welsh slate boulders so with this background should create the effect i am looking for - fingerscrossed

That is quite an interesting project you are working on. Be sure to post pictures of the finished tank.

decided to attack the slate background with a drill in an attempt to hide my FX5 pipework
:good:
Seemed to work out really well

very good job! btw are you spreading the weight of the rocks with anything or just sitting on the sand?

Thats very good!! i want to do something lyk that meself, just dunno were to start :| lol good work tho!!!

Nice thinking Realtree. If not spread properly, that much weight could mean stress cracks fairly quickly.
