Just a few livebearers I am currently keeping:

Alfaro cultratus, I have a trio of these, 2 female 1 male, I find them very shy, not had them long:

Ameca splendens, I have 19 of these, which I picked up from Jamie Owens, thanks again!

Xenotoca eiseni, I have 4 of these, also recently picked up from Jamie, they are coming along great!

In the upcoming months, I hope to start breeding these species and a few more, while I have some tanks free from my main interest, Central American cichlids. I am fond of CA livebearers though and have bred a few in the past.

Regards
Dave

Thanks, what size are your A.cultratus? I am hoping to get a large group, I have a 7ft tank with Costa Rican cichlids, I'd like to add some soon. There was only 3 left in the shop. Where abouts are you located?

Cheers Jamie! I am really liking the Xenotoca eiseni.

Xenotoca Eiseni females give birth about every 2 months wouldn't expect more than 10 from these until they get a bit bigger , found mesh traps much better to stop them eating the young packed with plants ( plastic are ok ) to restrict her movement , babies will go up as soon as there born not down like baby guppies , she will eat them if given the chance . My fry are close to 6 weeks old I tried a few a couple of days ago with their parents and they went straight after them so took them back out , gonna be 10 weeks old before I try them again .(  2-3 weeks you should see some fry ) .

I'm In Dorset, these fish don't put on much weight when heavily pregnant. View from above and your see he looking fat just before she gives birth.
They generally give birth either at night or at first light. to check in the morning's. These will eat their own fry very quickly.

Very nice fish and pictures David and helterskelter! I am glad that more people are getting into Goodeids and wild type livebearers. I also was big into CA cichlids but then I discovered Goodeids and got into wild type livebearers. Now I love Goodeids and wild type livebearers more then cichlids.

Ameca splendens and Xenotoca eiseni were my first species to keep. Fun fish to keep.
