Joker - I got him at the PetSmart on Broadway, just north of Diversey. Their tanks are always clean and disease-free. I bought my other one there also, and I saw him for the first time in 6 weeks when I started to strip down the tank for it's big make-over.

I paid $5.99. I've seen them at a LFS for $10.99.

I've noticed these fish change colors alot. I suppose he'll darken up more when I re-do that tank with black sand.

Is that a clown plec or a Candy Stripe. It Looks just like mine and I always though it was a Candy Stripe. I could be wrong though I had to ID mine as it wasn't labbled when I bought it.

He is so cute, he looks new as he seems to have that 'who are you,and what is that' look on his face.He blends in well with your gravel .

I think you'll find it is a different Species to the Candy Stripe, below is an extract from Planet Catfish.

''This fish, often labelled "Candy Striped Peckoltia" has often been confused in hobby literature with the fish we now know as Panaqolus maccus, the clown pleco. As with most Loricariids, colouration depends on mood.''

It also has different feeding requirements I believe.

You're right, crookster. I've heard them called both, but mine is a clown plec, Panaque maccus.
