A D A 2007 Winner's Video And Others

I agree, whose back did he scratch to snag the title? I could have sworn I saw a melting crypt leaf too. :/

On the other hand, Amano feeding his altums is pretty sweet.

How many people entered, George? 775 isn't so bad when like 10000 enter. Not so great when there are 800 entries... Oh well, you probably have to pay your dues first before you move up in the ranks.

I would like to see the rules apply to live tanks or videos at the very least.......like they do in NBAT, not pictures.....which are not reality.
Photography is "Art" my friends.

Folks carry on about a scape, but unless you see it in person, I suppose a video will work, you cannot really judge it.
Tanks are living moving thing, not static and only from one perspective.

Still, the video makes the tank look worse to me having seen the pic first then this..........
I thought this year's judgments where fair overall, but there's something to be said for photoshop, good cameras and photography skills.
That is as much of the art as the tank's themselves.
Is that what is being judged rather than the aquarist's skills?
Certainly part of it is.

I'd rather see a nice video of each tank, not some static lifeless picture.
Fish move after all and their behavior is the real part of any tank.
Of course some are more photographers than they are videographers, but that rules out other folks who are better at stills than video.
Would you want to judge someone based on a photo of you or what you where like in person/viedo?

Maybe if it was a good picture:)

that have no bearing on scaping or planted tanks, still, you have to be fairly good to place in the top 10, but those folks are after a contest goal mostly it seems, not their own true goal.

Well, the Art of photography and video can be every bit of much as promotion of the hobby as it is in person in the local clubs.
Both are wise.

There is just no way to judge all the entrants equally among cultures, goals, all in person, nor based on a single manipulated photo.
I've never judged for a contest for such reasons.

However, a video of each tank would be better than a picture.
We have moved on and now have video format widely available, we watch TV, podcast, and youtube...............not read newspapers in many cases.

It's sort of "old time" to use photos IMO.

You also need to know what the real goal of the aquaristys was, how they came up with and what they sought for the tank.
Much like an artists discusses their works at a gallery showing.

The video took something away for me.
I'll ask everyone that sees the picture and then sees the video their honest opinion there.
I do think based on the photo's this year's contest was really fair and well placed, you have to place a lot of work and effort in these tanks.

ADA is looking for a particular layout and style here, few of the dutch tanks would place highly, however, the same is true of the ADA style within the NBAT set of judges as well:)
Ponder that. Both styles still evolved from traditional gardening styles, see any Japanese gardens, or European designs for gardens as well, they both where just applied to aquariums for designs.

But entering the ADA contest is available to anyone with a good photo.
Not so with NBAT........so ponder that as well............

Which are your own goals?
That's a more important question and one that will lead to a "new" style.
