So today off the top of my head I got a pretty crazy idea and it's a way that I might be able to breed my wild caught cardinal tetras.
Basicly I found this video
where they connect three aquariums together which is already a cool idea on it's own.
But I have an even better idea and here it is.
Basicly I want to simplify the process of breeding cardinal tetras by combining tanks as seen in that video but with paludariums.
I am gonna follow this guide
https://bantam.earth/edens-bow-autonomous-paludarium/
Basically I want to highly accurately recreate their native blackwater environments as seen through real life images or videos but on a smaller scale of course and I already do this with my current tank but I want to take it to the next level .
How I want this to work is that one tank will be the main area for the fish to reside in basicly on the land portion I want to keep tiger striped tree frogs because they are pretty and are common around trees close to rivers which is where my fish are commonly found in the wild .
The idea here is to recreate a scene from nature of canopy creating shade in the water.
Lighting is always going to be a tricky part and even more so with this type of enclosure so wisely choosing the right type of plants especially types that can endure low lighting, placing species that require higher lighting closer to the lighting might be good enough but I am not sure.
it's also essential that I make sure they can get up from the water if they happen to fall down so creating a more shallow separate area of the water portion for them to land on would be great.
I already have 15 rummy nose tetras,15 cardinal tetras ,4 marbled hatchetfish , 4 corydoras duplicareus catfish and 3 otocinclus catfish in my current 145 l tank that I plan to move once I have the finances to build my project and when it's finished.
Next I want to create a breeding chamber containing a controllable mechanical door with a tunnel intended to look like a cave or a piece of hollow driftwood .
This would be to keep the adults from escaping or other fish from eating the eggs or fry and the perfect breeding enviroment with acidic water, low lighting and plenty of food before breeding
Once the parents have been separated when they have finished breeding the fry will be in the breeding chamber for the first periods of their lives until they can swim where they enter the third chamber.
I want the third one to be a nursery intended just for them with floating plants dark lighting like in the previous chamber and a biotope style environment with leaves for them to eat infusoria from ,driftwood ,sand and plenty of micro organisms growing naturally in the tank for the fish to eat.
And once they get old enough I could transport them to the main tank area keeping in mind the tank size when doing so and give them away or sell them to potential aquarists as a way to not overstock the tank which can easily happen with fry.
The awesome part is that I could adjust this for my other species if I ever feel like breeding them too.
What do you think of this?
Am I the only one who has had an idea like this?
