I ran out of food and my mom bought me these... bulk fish flakes with no name. I own tropical's, is bulk food healthy for them or will they get sick?

-

Also, I got 2 new fish today, they are silver with a black line down their side, small in size, kind of long bodied, I think they're called foxy ladies? Anyone know the name?

-

I have a 5 gallon community tank. I have 4 neons, 3 guppies and the two fish I don't know the name of. Am I overstocked?

-

AND last question; my betta died around four or so days ago and I havn't been bothered to empty his tank out yet. My first question is..

How'd he die? His gills turned a white silver color and then the next day he died and they turned a brown color and his eyes went white-ish. Was it like, nitrate poisoning or something? Cause I never did cycle the tank.

Also, if it was nitrate poisoning do I change the water and rinse it out before putting another fish in or can I just leave it with the water in already or what?

lets see: about the food....i would go get a decent brand u trust(i like tetra and hikari) and get small containers as large ones just go to waste...ur fish will be fine without food for a day or two(i have 2 days a week where i dont feed any of mine)

dont know about those two fish so.....

if the 2 unknow fish stay small (around 2 in) u should be fine.....just do small water changes regularly....smaller ones more often is always better...and be sure to syphon the waste out of the gravel

as far as the betta i got no clue....ive never cycled there tank(there just simple small betta tanks and i dont clean them too often....i know its not proper but im not able to anything about it right now so no one plz dont make a fuss over this)

Wow where to start with this post.

First......where did she get the bulk food? Most bulk foods are fine I buy my flakes in 5lb buckets from big al's online.

Second.....without a picture it's hard to say what you got....they may be flying foxes

Third......yes you're very very overstocked in a 5G.....technically you could have the neons but nothing else.

Fourth.....what size tank was the betta in? What was the parameters of the water.

Fifth....if it was nitrate/nitrite/ammonia poisoning then you'll need to drain the water before adding any further fish. And depending upon what the betta died of you may have to disinfect the tank.

I think a similar thread established that at least one of the unknown fish was a platy.
I agree with Sky that you're overstocked. Not just on the filtration side: just as important, a 5 gallon tank will leave very little room for the platys and guppies to move around and explore the way they like to do, it's just the sort of fish they are. No amount of water changes can overcome this basic problem: livebearers are active creatures who need room.
A 5 gallon sounds like the ideal tank for another betta; that's what I would use it for.

I've bought two tanks from my friends dad, it's been cycled and everything. The two flying foxes (LFS told me what they were) have been moved into a 30 gallon tank, two platys and two guppies have been moved into a 20 gallon and the neons are staying in the 5 gallon. Now i've got a 120 gallon and 50 gallon that are empty.

Got rid of the bulk and bought some tetra flakes.

Found out the betta died of dropsy, decided not to get another betta and just put the 2 gallon tank he was in storge.
