 I can't believe it.

A piece of live rock that I have had since fall of last year has just openned up to reveal a CLAM inside!!! For those of you who don't know what clams are, they are like coral, only more demanding and sensitive. And much more expensive in most cases! (underwater)ROCK ON!!!! 8) :flex:

Very cool. I've heard of many things being found on live rock before but never anyone getting a clam.

How would you like to get an Octopus?? it's happened! Not to me unfortunately but I've seen stories.. Just hope you dont get a "Blue Ring" octopus.. Deadly.

That would be unlikely considering the insane requirements for keeping one. Assuming one did tag along though, it probably wouldn't last too long.

It happens.. I'll find you some links. They're actually pretty hardy creatures..

Hardy but short lived and escape artists. I guess that they would soon esape the tank and die as they are forever trying to explore their surroundings.

Everything I've read on them is they require superb water conditions with a lot of filtration. I think there was a thread in here with a link to a site over just how much care and specialization they require.

Very specialised!
NOt just do they need absolutely perfect water requirements (they are bags of water after all :p ) They also require lots of liverock ot some other type of structure for them to explore. Octopuses are very nosey by nature and spend alot of time exploring their surroundings. If the tank didnt have these things it would soon get bored, stressed then die.

Well, yeah, they are considered almost as intelligent as human beings are afterall. No joking.

I had a clam on my LR when i first added it. The clam never really opened up and didn't survive the cycle. What color is yours? Any pics?

Finding octos on LR does happen, I have seen at least one post with pictures on tonmo.com (the octopus news magazine online) of somebody unexpectedly getting one! It is really not that unlikely when you think about it, they can hide in extremely small places.

And as for the water requirements, they would probably not cope well in an ammonia'y LR curing vat, but if the rock was handled well and was cured from the start, then they would be in the same water conditions that fish live in, which is quite acceptable for them.
