I didn't really realise how many snails were in my tank until I returned from my holiday last week. I had left a "tetra" feeding block in the tank while I was away and when I returned it was covered with snails!

I fished the block out removed all of the snails from it and put it back in the tank. I repeated this for a couple of days until there were hardly any snails left and then threw the block out.

Do people think that this is good chemical free way of removing snails or are there negatives of using the feeding blocks for a few days every now and then that outweigh the positives?

I didn't observe the same when I last wet away and used a different type of feeding block so perhaps there are specific ones that snails like? Anyone else noticed anything similar?

I've never seen snails going to feeding blocks, but maybe they use it for hardening their shells w/ that chalky white stuff. I wouldn't use the blocks all the time cause it can change some parameters in the water. ( a better bet would be to alternate between blocks and lettuce leaves) (just tie the leaf to a stone and snails should flock to it)

some snails are good though. get rid of the garden snails but if u have cone snails, they aren't bad since they air your substrate

yeah I tried to leave a few in there.

Using bait is much easier than trying to fish them out with a net individually. Next time I will try your lettuce leaf method though.

Thanks.
