Hi all

We are landscaping our garden and have allowed space for a pond. It is all dug out and ready for liner but I want to make sure that we are doing everything correctly.

The pond is 4 ft long by 3 ft wide. The sides slope to the centre so the shallowest part is 1ft around the very edge and the deepest is about 3 ft in the centre. The centre deepest part is la big dip in the middle measuring about 2ft by 2 1/2 ft squared.

Now comes the asking for advice bit!

What sort of filter do we get? I currently keep tropical fish so know that some people prefer external filters etc. Is there a preference for ponds?

Should I be looking to get a certain thickness or make of liner?

Should I put a substrate on the bottom when I have fitted the liner?

Is there a best place to put plants?

How many fish can I get? What sort?

What conditioning do I need to do to the water before fish can go in?

I have just read in a post that now isn't really the time to get fish, is this right?

So many questions, I would really appreciate any advice.
