My brother has a tropical freshwater set up and in it is a plecc some neons a clown loach and 2 guppies, now when he got his plec there was a betta in each individual shop tank, he was also told he could have one and only one in thhis tank, Is this true?
Im not sure thats why i ask

cheers

No its not true the lps was just trying to make a sell. The bettas will eat the guppies and the neons. Not sure if a clown loach is compatible with a pleco might have to wait for someone else to write. Also what size tank is it?

Oh, well never mind about the loach and the pleco just find out the tank size and I can help you.

Yikes, clown loaches can grow VERY big in their old age and will WAY outgrow a 70L tank. You're buddy is going to need to think about returning them or getting a bigger tank in the near future. Same rule of thumb goes for the common pleco. Both of those fish can live 10 years plus and can grow up to and over a foot long. As far as compatibility goes, you cant have more than one male betta in the same tank, they'll rip each other apart. Also, they're not always good with guppies or neons. Sometimes a mellow betta would be ok with them, but sometimes not. I'd err on the side of caution and not toss a betta in with guppies or neons

the problem with guppies, mainly male guppies, is their big colorful tails. This might trigger the betta to attack them for no apparent reason.

as for neons, they might nip the betta and get attacked in exchange... Male bettas are better left alone, or closely monitored
