psgill00:
The eight banded false barb is Eirmotus octozona, not that Leporinus, which is a South American Characin.
They are lovely little things. The same shape as my all time favourite Barbus gelius, grow to about the same size, totally peaceful, and beautifully marked. I had no trouble keeping them at all, but never was able to breed them. They were a little fussy with food for a while, ate live food but ignored flake. Took a couple of weeks to train them to take frozen and flaked foods. Once acheived, they lived long and happy. A real little treasure.
If I was in England, I'd drive up to Coventry tomorrow to get them all. Last saw them for sale about 15 years ago at Wildwoods.
*** EDIT ***
I just looked at google for a decent picture, but the few there were all showed very poor quality specimens, decidedly sick looking, emaciated.
