I went to my lfs today and bought 7 new mini tanks. There is a 5 gallon, two 3 gallons and four 1 gallons :)
I have finished setting them all up and when filling the tanks up with water I added some of my 10g water into it. I have one plastic plant in each of the 1 gallon tanks, in the 2 gallon tanks there are two plastic plants :) I plan to have real plants in the 5 gallon so I'm going to wait till the water paremetres are correct enough for them.
Ok, with the 1 gallon tank I am going to get a male betta in each. In the 2 gallon tanks I hope to have two females in each tank. :) I'm confident about these tanks and they're fish choices...
In the 5 gallon tank I'm going to move my P. Furcata Rainbowfish into it (he is starting to chase around the guppies for fun  ) I want to have 3 platies in there as well... will this be ok?

I hear putting two female bettas together is not a very good idea, one will likely pick on the other. If I'm not mistaken, what I've picked up from the others is that the best number (enough distribution of "power") is 4-5 in a ten gallon. You might want to try asking around at the betta forum.

It'll be nice to have all those little worlds going in your home. I don't know a whole lot about the rainbow fish you described. I would just check to see if there is enough swimming space for it in the 5 gal. some rainbow fish need long runs at the water to be truely happy.

hiya Guppy lover, great news 4 u abt finally gettting ur mits on the new tanks, so u can have a betta!

the only thing i will say is that having 2 females in a 2 gallon is abit risky, but really does depend on how sociable they are. sum female bettas can be right madams, and insist they are better than each other, fight, and can kill, similar to the males. im not sure if there is enough room in the 2 gallon to have 3 or 4 betta girlies, i dnt think there is, so id strongly advice you (if you have the money and the space) to take the 2 gallon tank back, and change it for another 5 gallon, or possiblly a 10gallon. this is so you can have your betta girlies. i had two girlies in a community tank, but 1 constantly picked on the other, so i got another 1, and they seem ok now.

i hope this helps you, if you need ne more help on bettas you cud try assing a post, with a link to this thread, to ask what they think in there. if you wud like nemore help, im usually abt on msn.

I'd never put rainbowfish into a tank that small, they are schooling and like lots of open space to swim about in. I also think 2 bettas in a 2gallons is a bad idea.

Also, you mentioned about not putting plants in a tank until 'the parameters are right for them'. Plants will eat up the amonia, nitrite and nitrate to help them grow and some people heavily plant a tank in something called 'silent cycling' and the levels will never go up.

Congrats on your new tanks, please just be careful not to try and put too much into them.

Adding water from a established tank to a new one serves no purpose other than to transfer water born algeas, parasites and bad bacteria, good bacteria only colonises the hard surfaces within the tank. Adding a handful of gravel or a filter sponge from a established tank is the best way to transfer good bacteria to help kickstart the new tank.

when they are properly cycled, you can have bettas and some killie fish. petfish.net says they only need like 1 gallon for a pair. kinda think thats wrong though

If I can't place two females together into the 2 gallon tanks should I only add one female betta in the tanks? ...I've seen some female bettas placed together in a tank that worked out real well, but I can't be too sure.

I'll add some of the gravel from the 10 gallon tank to the smaller ones... is it possible to add a filter in the 1 and 2 gallon tanks or will it disturb the water too much? Thanks for the information CFC.

I'm not going to add my P.Furcata Rainbowfish to the 5 gallon tank, it does seem to small. Will the Platies be ok?

I'm going to buy a larger aquarium for my rainbowfish... mabye I can even add some more rainbowfish too.

I'll be adding the plants tomorrow if it really does help with the cycling! Thanks Cheese Specialist.

Thank for replying everyone :)
