Could this work for a 65g?

- A Baenchi
- A Calvus
- N Multi (or N Ocelitus or N Similis)
- J Dickfeldi (or other Julidochronis)
- S Petricola or Multipuctatus

ALL of the above will be purchased as juvs (4 of each). 1/3 of the tank will be heavily stocked with rocks, while 2/3 of them will be covered in sand. Shells will be placed at the opposite end.

Once A Baenchi matures, the group will be moved into a separate tank for breeding attempts, alone by themselves. Same fate awaits for A Calvus, N Multi and J Dickfeldi. I figure it will take 6 months to 1 year for them to completely mature, given that the breeder's fries are quite small.

Could this work? My intention is not maintaining this combo for next 24 months. I'd like to keep a nice looking setup for them to grow up (and pleasant to look at), and split as they become mature. I believe all of them are omniverous, so feeding should not cause any issue.

Appreciate any feedback! :D

Yes it can work as long as you have lots of rocks. Also your plan to get 4 of each is a good idea that way once they start to mature you can figure out the female to male ratios more easily. But of course, don't add that many fish all at once to unestablished tank.

Perhaps I should add more than 1/3 full of rocks in the tank? Now that I think about it, every species I mentioned above will appreciate abundant presence of rocks except N Multi and potentially A Baenchi.

Also, I have both ordinary sand and pool filter sand. Has anyone tried pool filter sand with shellies?
