Hey All,

Happy New Year!

My 35 year old mitered glass 3/8" thick, 60g hex has either some deteriorating silicone or just an irregular shape from the injection at build time (something I never noticed until I got some algae in the seams?). Now I am concerned about the seams' integrity and whether I need to tear it apart and reseal it. The fake plant with black algae on it gone now and I am moving towards planting the tank (dirt or deep gravel) but don't want to plant it if I need to rebuild it in the near future.

I included the rim pic more or less as a clue to how this was made and maybe how difficult it may be to put it back together is I take it apart.

One local shop says I need to reseal just by scraping out the silicone from the vertical seams without taking it all apart (resealing to the bottom silicone appears problematic) and the other says it is how these tanks were made so nothing needs to be done. What say you?

Thanks!

Does algae (black) eat algae?
