I currently have a 10 g community tank and just got through setting up a 55 galllon but im afraid i under estimated the size of the 55g and now have no room for the second 10g i was goina use for a breeding tank has anyone ever used a 5g to breed before any help would be nice

Bettas can be bred in a five gallon, but I have to wonder if you don't have room for a ten gallon spawn tank, where do you plan to put 100+ jars? :dunno:

i have bred in 5 gallon tanks successfully. it's important to have lots of vegetation and hiding places for the female if you use a smaller tank though. the thing is though, having a large enough growout tank is more important, 20 gallon should be your minimum. breeding tanks will only be of use for the first month if that, once the fry start growing they must be transferred to larger surroundings.

i've used a 10g to spawn, and used a 15g rubbermaid contianer for my next spawn. If you haev the room, but dont' want to get another tank you can just use the big clear containers like i do, they work the same way as a tank until you can transfer the babies

i plan on filling my shelves with the jars my shelves arent deep enough for a tank and im using the 50 as a grow out for the females and may creat a bunch of mesh housing ive seen for the males to put in the 50g as well

Sorry to post a question in your forum ....... but cute cotton do you blv you could get some pics of your containers ??? or are they just more or less deep plastic tubs rinsed very well ?

yeah, they are pretty much just clear containers rinsed really well. I've never had a problem from it, here are a few pics.

the tanks are set up in a way to riase fry right now, if i was breeding the only thing that'd be different is the water levelw ill be lower and there would be a cup. also the plants would be all bunched up in a corner rather than srpead out.

i dotn't hink ti'd hurt :D just fine of those hugeeee plastic containers, mine are only 15g each , and i got about 12 fry in each. If i had a bigger spawn i would have gotten a bigger plastic container (i've seen 20 - 30g around).

:D to tell you the truth, i got this idea off someone in the forums, can't remember who though -_-

exactly :D they are cheaper than 30g tank for sure..if you dont' erally midn the whole plastic thing, but i keep those two in my room so nobdoy sees it but me  I also have another one for the female bettas
