I am buying a 59 Gallon tank..I want it to be a reef tank..the fish I want are clown , yellowtail damsel, blue damsel, and green chromis.. are these fish fine to start with? what do i buy for the tank to start my tank..I'm 100% new to this so all the replys i can get will help..thank you

They're OK to start with, but beware damselfish... They're very aggressive and will limit your future stocking options. I'd reccomend heading to the stickies atop this section and read through them to get you started on the learning curve :)

I agree, except the part about them being very aggressive... some, such as Sargeants can indeed be holy terrors but most are generally peaceful, especially when young.

Always regarded Chromis as the marine version of neon tetras, but we ended up with two of them and they do grow on you.
Damsels ? Yuk !
They have a major inferiority complete an d are tooo nasty for little fish !
The other guys are right, too aggressive, and will limit what you can get in the future.

Agreed, Damsels are really annoying little sods. They can be really territorial and attack fish that they take a disliking to. Mine bites me if I put my hand in the tank, although since I started attacking him back by flicking my fingers towards him, he's since calmed down a bit. It didn't like my orange firefish and bullied it until it lept from the tank and the dog ate it I think, because I never saw it again :( .
