Soon I will be purchasing a 55 gallon and 40 gallon (US) tank to replace the 29 gallon tank I current maintain.

Here is what I have:
  • an open frame steel stand
  • an Emperor 400 biowheel power filter
I plan on purchasing a second Emperor 400. The 40 gallon will be planted and have sand, rocks and keep tiger barbs. The 55 gallon will be planted with driftwood, rock and gravel and keep gouramis and corydoras.

The tank stand will rest on a carpeted concrete floor at ground level.

Some things I was wondering...

Will the two tanks be good enough on their own on the stand. Someone recommended having a piece of glass underneath the tanks to help maintain the stability of the stand (95 gallons is a decent amount of weight). Anybody out there have a similar setup or suggestions?

I was also wondering if I need an undergravel filter. I am guessing that the biowheel power filters should be sufficient.

Any other suggestions are welcome.
