Finally the time has come and funds are coming in to get my new tank.
Im upgrading from a juwel rio 125 to a rio 240 :D at a well good price of £276 so my work is only making a fiver on me :p oh how i love my 25% discount!
Ok but enough of that.
Now im only in the starting stages but i thght id get the post going as i keep going on about it to u lot so about time i showed me doing things.

Here it my tank from today well say 3 hours before my skimmer came in the post :p

Then it being in a huge tub, thats being oxygenated. and heated later on

The salt im using is seachem reef salt it does 200 litres for 18 quid which i thght was not bad.

You can also see a sieo m620 pump in there too i will be getting 2 of these to do 20x my total water in movement.

Im getting the tank on sat and starting work on it on sunday.
One question i have if i get same temp, ph and saltyness can i just put the corals and fish in the tank with my water too?

I will be selling my tang :-( but as navarr says its bit unfair to treat such a big fish in a small tank even in my new one, but also my cardinal which i hate (mum bought it by accident) and 2 green chromos as they were used to help cycle my live rock stage.

So in total on my new tank i will be running my:

Ehiem pro 2224 external which later will be filled with live rock, More purigen and phosphate remover.
2 sieo m620 powerheads
t6 lightbulbs (equivilent to t5s but they fit t8 slot), and later on prehaps dill in 2 t5 bulbs onto the hood for extra light
Hoping a UV too depends on cash
I dunno how much live rock ive got at the moment but ill weigh it up later then buy from there.
I dunno how much sand but ive orderd in 2 types of sand to buy 24kg each and see wot they look like then go from there.

If there is anything u wanna query me on id like that and def take into account but if its money u have to see i aint the richest 17yr old :p But intotal its costing me £540 which is not bad i thght.

Sounds pretty cool

I'd say you should acclimatise all your livestock to help them adjust to all the parameters even if they are very close.

You tank is 72 gallons? I thought that is more than enough for a yellow tang but Nav is the master
I do wonder if it would end up in bigger tank than the one your getting though :S

Look forward to pics of the new tank

is it! haha wow i thght it was smaller, despite it saying practicalfishkeeping it was roughly that too. Oh bollocks need another tub for water lmao!
Yer thats wot i thght but i mean if anything i can always get one later on prehaps after have a good edbate over it but for now i think anywway it be good idea, as then only things in the tank will be a clown, pink spotted goby, dwarf angle, cleaner shrimp and a sifting star. tell u whatwhen i get go to work today ill take some pics of the tank :) then sunday time to start the changing over :d:D well excited although place will look like a bombsite

Sounds Good :)

Do you work in your LFS?
Yer i do but only freshwater :( ohwell makes it more interesting when i come home lol.
Ok here is my tank :D

Now i dont want the filter in there as its huge and waste of time i think so im cutting it out with a knife, all u need it gutts and a bit of a push with it and it will slice off.

Then use some pads of some sort and scrap the exess off with a knife also and after that u end up with this :D

Now im going to world of fishes tomoz to sell my fish but also im looking at buying argonite sand 30 quid a packet or sumit :S rip off but ohwell worth it i suppose they weith like 25lbs so ill need 2 right?

I was under the impression the rio 240 had a water volume of 240ltrs.
This converts to 52.8gal not 72gal. And with the water that is displaced by LR tank volume is probably no more than 45-50gal

Are you going to install a sump? If not i would suggest your new tank will be to small to house a Tang long term.

If you have a large flow rate in your tank this may help the Tang fulfil its need to swim (like a tread mill)

I love the new V2 protein skimmer. Great bit of kit for the price.

The online volume calculator i use worked it out to be 72 US Gallons or 60 UK Gallons. As pretty much everyone here uses US gallons we could say 72 ;)

If people were going to give tangs 125g of swimming space they'd need a 1000 gallon tank to make up for the room taken up by LR.

Niz - I thought we had to be 18 to work with Live animals? I applied for a job down the LFS but they said that :S

Yes i know im taking it back tomoz after 6 months of happyness lol but i dont mind if anything it be easier to then change over the fish into new tank.
Its good the bubble stop aint amazing and i aint very good atm in getting it to skimmer properly as last time i did it it overflowed onto carpet :S.
Really? im 17, started last year when i was 16 i only work part time but saying that ive been working more to make up funds plus i get cash in hand so no tax :D.

So is argonite the best sand to have?

Ok today i took back my yellow tang, 2 green chromos and a cardinal. got 22 quid credit and bought 60lb of argonite sand. i hope its enough if not another 25 quid :S
Photo-0422.jpg

Ill start to change the tank on sunday so more piccers then :D

Also Just to say sf05 that remeber my ro worries about the psi being too low, well i finally fitted a pressure gauge and guess wot, the minimum is 60psi for the thing to work properly well i tested it in 2 places, one straight from the tap and the line that goes up into the top chamber and the reading was..... 60PSI!!!!!!! HAHAHAHA YAY i dont need to buy a booster!
