im getting a 50 gallon tank sooner or later, and i need to know what i should get for filtration, im sure about everything else, (i.e. airation and heat and things) but i want a filter where you dont have to change out the filter compounds. most preferably somthing like a canister filter. if anyone has any suggestions, post a link or picture about it. thanks for anyones help! :)

If your looking at long term low cost. Than you need to be thinking aquaclear HOB filter. An ac-110 (500), will do the job and cost very little up front and less on maint. Filter media can be used for 6-12 months easily with just a good rinse in used aquarium water. Carbon need never be used or replaced . Save for when medications are used. The bio max insert can be used for ever.

Aquaclear 110 $38-$39 plus shipping at either doctorsfostersmith.com or petsmart.com.

Good inexpensive heaters are visetherm submersibles either stealth or original. These heaters are very acurate and dependible. Check prices same web sites. Really cheap.
