Just noticed that one of my youngest fry has lost an eye  the socket is all red and she's very very quiet while they others are all swimming around

She's in a 21UK gallon with gravel, live plants, other guppy fry and neons. Nobody has ever attacked anybody so I wonder if she's scratched it on the gravel or its disease?

Its now an hour since I noticed as we've just set our fireworks off and its a bit fuzzy now and slightly brownish at one corner

Have put melafix and salt in but is there anything else I can do? her gill on the same side as the eye looks a little red too.

Poor little girl :-(

no spare tank to quarantine but I could isolate her in a breeding trap to make sure she gets food tonight. what do you think?

Can you please post test results in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, they can survive with one eye, you must make sure you have excellent water quality for the eye to heal.

Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 10-20 ph 7.8

They always have a bit of salt in there but I only put it in once a month so it gets diluted out with weekly pwc's but brought it back up to full strength as I heard its good for wounds. I use salt water on piercings and it doesn't hurt nearly as much as you think.

Update this morning she's looking ok. I put her in the breeding trap overnight as the others guessed something was wrong with her and kept crowding her and a couple pecked at her. She's had something to eat. Socket looks ok still slightly red but doesn't appear fuzzy now. Will release her later when I can keep an eye on her.

I guess this one is a keeper. She was destined to the pet shop with her brothers and sisters but don't think they would want one with an eye missing. Going to call her Nelly (female for Nelson)
