i'd go for 100 gallons (US). by the way, theres no way in hell your pirahnas are 2 inches wide, and only 2 inches long. a full grown pirahna is only 1 inch wide max, haha. if they are, they must look like puffers!
Sorry to detract from the main conversation...but lougotzz do you really own all of those tanks? Impressive! I am envious! You must live in a warehouse lol!
Hehe he doesn't his "uncle" does. It annoys the hell outta me evry time I see it cause I'm almost positive it isn't true, taking into consideration some of his posts.
And although Lou is right that the general rule for piranhas is 20 gallons per fish, this is a blatant generalization. It only applies in a very large tank where they have a lot of room to swim around. It does not mean that you can keep a piranha in a 20 gallon tank. (Big no-no, trust me). they are very messy and the filtration in a twenty would not be sufficient.
Um, Lou, no offense, but...you just said you're a Piranha expert, and they need 20 gallons per fish, which I agree, is quite a loose rule of thumb, kind of like the 1 gallon of water, 1" of fish thing, but if you're a Piranha expert, why do you have 4 Red-Bellied Piranhas (P. nattereri) in a 10 gallon aquarium. You are aware they get quite large (8-12") right?
Sean
I know I'm stepping out of ranks here But I think 20 gallons per pirahna is a very very good rule. Its specific (pretty much all pirahnas have the same liveing requirements), Its kind to the fish (a 12 inch fish is fine with 20 gallons to call its own) and if you acctually pay attention to the other requirements you know that that means an 80 gallon tank minimum (because the schooling requirement is just as important as the meaty food requirement and the warm water requirement) IMO this rule is nothing like the 1" of fish per gallon rule
