I stopped in at a store today specializing in gas (CO2, O2, etc.) to look at 5 lb cylinders. They sell 5lb CO2 cylinders (filled) for $90.00. When you need a refill, they just swap it for another filled cylinder so you never keep the same tank. It costs $12 each time you swap.

This seems kind of pricey to me. Is this the going rate in the US?

I've found brand new 5 lb cylinders online for $75 -- I would obviously need to get it filled. But I would always have the same tank. Not sure if this even makes a difference.

Any comments or suggestions would be very much appreciated!

I went the buy my own and have it filled route. I got an alum. one for about $70. There is one drawback to this- every few years you have to have the cyclander inspected before they will refill it- this takes a few weeks. With the exchanged ones, the store handles this problem.

btw- I pay about $9-10 for a refill.

Thanks for the reply! I think I'm going to try the exchange. The tank is only costing $78 as the $90 includes the CO2.
