I have a few mulltiple sized 4mm(5/32")thick tempered glass ranging from
24" to 54" in length and all pieces are 24" tall. What are my options with this glass. Would they be safe to use on a 8'long by 2-3' wide plywood tank. I could use 1 4ft long piece and 2 smaller pieces on the outside.
Also is the height compared to thickness measured by the viewable area or the viewable area plus the overlap?
With 3" overlap top a bottom would only be 18" viewing area.
Could I use 3 30"high by 24"wide pieces with a 3" overlap and 1' spacers.
Is there a possibilty to double them up for added strength. How would you do that too.
Maybe I can't even use this glass at all. All help is appreciated.

I don't know anything about tempered glass, but at the sizes you are talking about 4mm rings some serious alarm bells.

tempered glass is strong as hell i would have no concerns over what u want to do myself but by all means double it up if u have it spare

IMO go for it no worries :good:

Wow I can't seem to get two of the same answers at a time. Here is a pic to better understand what I'm wanting to do...The overlap is 2-5: depending on whats the safest.

Public forum, you'll get different peoples opinion. I said I know nothing about tempered glass. I do know that 4mm regular glass at the dimensions you are talking about doesn't stand a chance in hell of holding up.

tempered glass is general concidered to be about 4-6x stronger than normal glass

but when its breaks it doesnt go into a few peices it shatters!

Im a glazier by profession, with single thickness tempered, and with a big enough peice, you might expirence some serious bowing of the glass. Tempered has more of a flex tolerance due to higher strength. With a fully tempered piece, it will take 15,000 psi on a 1/4 thick piece of glass to break it. what was this glass originally used for? does it have a etching anywhere on the glass?

Even if the glass was super strong stuff 4mm is nothing.Basically all tanks are atleast 6mm  Tbh i wouldn't try it,but still i do not know anything about glass :shifty:
