the outlet on my overflow box is 40mm, the only hose I can find that big is the silicone stuff that you use on car engines.. is this ok to use?

Not sure i would use it you dont know what treatments have been applied to it.

40mm seems very wide I would contact the seller you might need to buy some pvc piping to do it I could be wrong though

Coral Culture sell Reef safe 40mm Rigid pipe. But the connectors ect ain't cheap. I've heard of people using B and Q pipe and saying they've used it for years and it's safe but wasn't worth the risk for me. 40mm does seem large. My system is being plumbed with 32mm which figures at about 3500 lph gravity driven if that makes sense.

Yes it is very large! I didn't realise til it turned up that it was THAT big. I've been back to the website I bought it from to look for hose and they dont even sell it. This is apparently meant to be 2500lph. I'll have a look at coral culture, id rather not run the risk of spending all this money then harming everything in my tank by saving a few quid on hose!
