Just curious if anyone else has ever heard of this. Our cat begs for food any time we walk up to the aqarium. She really loves algae discs. More than her own food. Does anyone know if this is a bad thing, and even more so if this is normal. Thanks!

Funny that you mention this, my old cat loved fish food too. I have no idea why.(BTW I didn't feed fish food to my cat, I spilled some and she went nuts over it) :dunno: Sure enough, fish food has "fish" in it, but it also has algae, spirulina etc which makes it a bit hard to see why cats would love it. I wouldn't let your cat eat it, isn't spirulina blue-green algae? If so I don't think it's any good for mammals.

Has probably something to do with the smell or flavoring and also because you are spending time with you fish and not your cats.

I was doing a water change one time, and my cat actually started to drink the betta water. It wasn't too disgusting as I do changes quite often for my 1 gallon tank. But as said before my cat went nuts for the stuff.

I had a cat that stole a whole bag of algae wafers and ate them.... Expensive kitty treats! :p

LoL thats crazy... welll I don't have a cat or anything but the fish food cat food dog food all smell the same to me...! So I'd have to go with, you cat loves the smell of the wafers!

My Budgie Lemon Pie loves eating freeze dried River shrimp!! We accidently left one on top of the tank and when she landed she ate it!! And if we ever take the lid off the fishtank while shes in the room she'll land on the side and try to get to the fish or she'll dive bomb the tank trying to use it as a bath!! Very funny to watch but we had to discourage it as we were afriad that one of the fish might try and drag her under!!

My dog gets on top the ledge that my fish tank is on and eats all of my flakes and freeze dried bloodworms! its soooooo annoying

Could it be that the the cat just wants a bit of variety in her diet. think about it, in the wild the cat would be eating anything it can catch or find. In ppl. homes with owners who love their felion pets ( or dogs) and give them the best meat/dry food that money can buy, the texture of it is like meat...or similar but here is something that smells like fish but a a whole new texture, flaviour etc. no wonder they are inquisitive. what do you guys think ??
