Hey guys! I haven't posted in a looooong time, but I came buy this site again, so here I am

So, I'm setting up a 40 gallon tank soon, and I was wondering if you could help me fill in the gaps of my stocking ideas:
-1 gourami
-6-8 danios
-8 cories
-5-6 medium tetras or 8-10 small tetras
-1 pleco (clown, bristlenose, or snowball)

This tank is a 40 gallon long. I was wondering if you guys had any ideas for the gourami, and also, an idea for a tetra. I was thinking either neons or black phantoms. Also, I'm not sure about the pleco. I don't like how the clowns hide, the bristlenose I'm neutral, but I love the snowball!! Thanks!

Make sure you get the smaller Snowball Plec. Rosy Tetra's would look excellent. As for the Gourami's, i would look into Honey Gourami's. Try and source 1 male to 2-3 females.

How big to snowballs ultimately get? Also, I like the rosy tetras, but I would rather get a smaller specimen of tetras. Maybe like the size of cardinals. The exception to this, however, are the black phantom tetras and black skirt tetras. I like them too. Do you know of any bottom-feeder that doesn't mind a gravel substrate? I know that cories and loaches who have barbels don't like it because it can hurt their barbels.

Just an update, I've decided on a school of white and black skirt tetras, some otos, some danios, a snowball pleco, and a gourami, either opaline, banded, or honey.

I believe there are a few different species of snowballs. Do a google search and see if you can spot yours.

I did a lot of research before I bought mine to make sure that I wasn't going to end up with a beast like my common pleco. No two sources of information say the same thing! So between 4 and 5.5 inches was the vague answer I got. Have a look on some of the specialist catfish forums, like the catfish subforum on here or planet catfish

Does anyone know how big snowablls will ultimately get?

The true Snowball Pleco has a max size of 6.3inches- PlanetCatfish.com is your friend for everything catfish research related :nod: ;

Concerning the Gourami, i wouldn't recommend one with Danios. Gourami's prefer heavily planted habitats with a warm slow moving current, while generally speaking Danio's prefer cool fast flowing tanks with open spaces for shoaling & quick swimming. As a Gourami suitable shoaling fish i would personally recommend Cherry Barbs- the males are Cherry coloured while the females are brown and they make an overally super-peaceful chilled out shoaling fish that also enjoys planted tanks :thumbs: .
