currently I have a 3foot and soon to be swapped for a 5foot, the new tank is to be placed where the old one sat so i dont have change to set it up prior to the move.
I know this is a risky thing to do, what is the best way of doing this to minimalise stress and potential fish loss?

Guys and Gals i really need your help on this one as the tank will be here in april and i want to prep as much as i can

the only way i can think of and i am gonna try this when i move is to buy a 50g tupper ware plastic box from your hardware store and hook a filter and heater in it then cycle it and the when the new tank arrive put the fish in the tub and cycle your new tank

I did a major overhaul a few months ago and moved tanks around. I took out a large amount of water and filled a tub as tdins mentioned. Then I moved the fish into it and threw on the filter while I scooped the gravel into another bucket. I did a large gravel vac a few days prior to moving day so that I didn't stir up to much debris when removing the gravel.

Yank down the old tank, set up the new and dump in the gravel. Fill it half way with warm (tank temp) fresh water (or less, depends on how much water is in the bucket with your fish). Put the heater in and let it adjust. Then scoop out some of the fish bucket water into the tank, refill with tank water so that youre slowly acclimating them to the new water and their old water. Make the changes larger & larger each time. 10% then 15% and so on. Then...remove most of the water and net the fish into the new tank. Personlly, I dumped :*) but I have tough fish.

That's how I did it and it was instantly cycled, never a problem. It took less than an hour to do each tank. I'm sure others will share their experiences for more ideas. :)

Sounds promising, i think thats the best way i can do it, i dont have a lot of space so the sooner i can get the place back to normal with out causing the fish to much stree the better. thanks for that
