You can have 1st dibs on fry if they do breed and yo still want them in the future.

looks crap bro.................

only kidding, looks really good. was not 100% sure when it had no plants in but now it does look brill. do like your fish choice as well.

Just noticed you upgraded to a U1 as well which is a really good choice as the arc 35 filter is rubbish! Im on the look out for a small alternative and found the tiny Resun external filter which I plan to get in the future more for neatness in the tank and also less obtrusion in the tank as well. They are about £20 inc delivery off ebay could be an idea for this tank?

i bought the resun about 3 weeks ago. i had a few issues with build quality but nothing i could not sort out. i have it in my 40ltr and it just about provides enough flow for my plants etc. its took me while to get the placement right with the spray bar so i don't get dead spots in the tank. its also deadly silent though and a really small compact size, for £20 you can't complaint one bit.

Plant and fish look great, looks so much bigger than an Arc35 due to the scaping!

Just been reading their profile at SF (http://www.seriouslyfish.com/profile.php?genus=Badis&species=badis&id=39) and some thing jumped out at me that may need immediate action...
"Also note that freshwater shrimp of the popular genera Caridina and Neocaridina, and certainly their young, may be preyed upon."
Not sure which shrimp you have, so no idea if this is an issue.

Something else worth mentioning from the profile is their adult size and recommended tank size. Badis badis gets much bigger than the Black Tiger Badis, upto 6cm, plus the SF profile suggests a 54l (60x30x30) for a single pair. As your lovely group get older, you may need to move them to a bigger tank.

One final thing, as I'm sure you will read the profile yourself (and hopefully some other sources too, to get an all-round picture of their needs) is regarding breeding. Your lovely bloke is going to need a cave, where he can literally "drag" females into after locking lips! Once the fry have used up their yolk sac, they will venture out of the cave, but at this point the fry will be seen as snacks by all other fish in the tank (including the parents)! Perhaps the way forward is to keep the Arc35 as a breeding setup and move the other Badis out once you think eggs have been laid (at which point add a tiny bit of mehtylene blue to minimise fungus losses), moving them to a larger tank?

I have cherrys and crystals so I don't think that will be an isue. As for the tank well there is around 4 natural carves underneath and between bits of the wood so that should surfice for his needs ;). Well hopfully me and my gf wil have a house in a few months time and with that will come a upgradeded tank from a 35l to maybe a 60-70 and will hopefully see me upgrading my 125l to hopefully a 400+l.
I read on the bus that they max out at around 4cm for males and 3cm for females. Don't quote me on that tho.

I have just been duing a bit more resurch on them and I think they must have been mislabelled. It says the females will have no blue on the fins, mine do and the colors of the my male are so different to those described on the net. I think they may well be scarlets, the second ones you brought my attention to the other day. If so its greet news as they will stay tiny ;) do you agree goat?

Alex, your two shrimp species are of the genus Caridina and Neocaridina (Crystal, Cherry respectively)!

As to the ID of your Badis, this is why I have come to appreciate scientific names of fish over the last six months. It does like your fish could be either Badis badis or Dario dario, depending on how big they get!

Well sods law the shop I got them from had all proper labels on all tanks with pics of them full names +Latin names and requirements. Unfortuatly the badis tank only had a postit stuck up saying rainbow badis and the chap said they were new in and for the 1st time so hopefully fingers crossed the were miss labeled. Their coloration does not match the pics of badis badis but does look exactly look like the dario dario. We shall see with time tho. They are all just under 1cm in length ;)

Lol silly me,

Wow mate.. absolutely fantastic looking tank.. I suggest you put some pictures in for tank of the month :good:

Also, the fish are lovely, may have to consider setting up a nano tank and getting me some of those (after doing some research)

HI, great looking badis. I have kept Scarlets for a few years and found getting hold of females quite hard. I think they are not stocked so much because essentially they are boring looking. The number of times I have bought a 'female' only for it to colour up over a few weeks and be a fella..

they wont grow much on the size you have there.

Ed

Chears for the comment pal. Wasn't sure if they wore rainbows instead of scarlets well the tank they cane from hand maybe 100 of them and only about 5 males in there. Hoping that's not the case with me don't want 2 males as I don't have the room to acomodate. ;)
